Sir John A. Macdonald's contribution to Canadian history is being challenged like never before. Dutil discussed the key elements of Macdonald's political life and discussed the criticisms that have been levelled against Canada's first prime minister.

Patrice Dutil is Professor of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University. His many books include "Macdonald at 200: New Perspectives and Legacies (Dundurn) and "Prime Ministerial Power in Canada: Its Origins under Macdonald, Laurier and Borden" (UBC Press).
