This evening our Zoom presentation was given by Nathan Hiller, president of the Albion Bolton Historical Society
Postal history encompasses many aspects of life including social - communication, economical - political, bureaucratic - statistical, development, technology and population growth. The post office system wasn't created in a vacuum, they were constructing a network, adding and building as settlement extended out from the major centres, Halifax, Montreal, Kingston, York/Toronto and Niagara.
One can also think of postal history in terms of the cancellation stamps, business logos, postcard images and even what a brief simple message on the back can reveal.Â
Nathan showed us some examples of the logistics it took to develop and maintain an ever expanding network by looking at Caledon’s postal history.
