Most people may be aware of the rare and valuable Swedish stamp, the Treskilling Yellow, of which there is only one copy known to exist.  

Far fewer of us are aware of the man behind the first issue of Swedish stamps.  He was a man of his times, living an extraordinarily interesting life, of which stamp production comprised a relatively brief period.

And yet Sparre took on the postage stamp challenge head on: engraving the master dies, then working out the entire production process by himself, right through to his own unique design of the perforations.   Dive in with us..
