(In-Person Meeting)
Doors Open at 6:00pm
Join us this evening at our 🦌 Deer Park location for a double bill event. We will hold a Silent Auction in addition to our programmed presentation by Jean Wang.
There will be a "Silent Auction" of 15 lots of material owned by the Club at this meeting.
Members and guests may enter their bid for any lot on a sheet that will be with each item.
Bidding opens at 6:30 pm and will end 5 minutes after our presenter has concluded. Payment in cash only at the end of bidding.
Traditional ways of collecting focus on the philatelic aspects of the material, including stamp production and usage, rates, routes and markings.
By contrast, a topical or thematic collection focuses on the images or subjects depicted on the material. While traditional collections are typically organized by country of issue, routes or other philatelic aspects, topical or thematic collections are organized according to the chosen topic or theme.
What may not be appreciated by many is that topical and thematic collections can include a wide variety of material beyond stamps, including postmarks, postal stationery and even postal history items.
In this presentation, Jean will explain the difference between a “topical” and a “thematic” collection, and show the wide variety of material that can be included beyond stamps, using examples from her COVID-19 collection.
