(In-Person Meeting)
Doors Open at 6 pm
Back again by popular request, was longtime NTSC member Art Halpert who presented to us Canadian Revenue Stamps. We hope you joined us on the west side of Yonge Street at our Christ Church Deer Park location 🦌this evening.Â
This was an excellent learning opportunity.Â
Like Halpert's April 9th presentation on Admirals, tonight's presentation was also of the touchy-feely type where the actual items from Art’s collection were circulated around for room for examination. Ergo, there will be no slide presentation.Â
Traditionally, most people consider Canadian Revenues are those listed in E.S.J. van Dam's The Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalogue. However, there are thousands of other Canadian government revenue stamps, including some of the most beautiful and largest Canadian stamps ever produced.Â
Included in this latter group are Tobacco Stamps. Most smokers (of cigarettes and other legal things) are familiar with the small and (in my eyes) ugly stamps affixed to the small packages they buy. But Canada did not produce much if any tobacco and imported most from the U.S. These used to arrive in relatively large packages. Hence, the revenues tended to be large, as long as 1 1/2 metres.   As a result, few of the larger ones survived.  Â
