With over a thousand stamps to his name, W. Słania was the most accomplished and prolific stamp engraver, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. 

Slania falsified money and documentation for the Polish resistance during World War II. Poland issued the first stamp engraved by him in 1951. Most of his stamps were issued by Sweden.
